You Ought To Be In Pictures

(unknown model)

More books are being published about Whitey Bulger, the notorious Boston gangster who was arrested two years ago after sixteen years on the lam. He was the inspiration for the Jack Nicholson character in the film The Departed. He was also an informer for the FBI, being granted immunity while he still led his life of crime. And it’s only a matter of time before his biography hits the silver screen.

There is another Boston-based character who might deserve Hollywood attention - the main female character in my novel Connections. Why do I say this? Well, I recently had another male reader express great interest in Maria. I believe lust was the term he used. The number of readers expressing such interest seems to be growing.

Why this interest in Maria? First off, she’s a black haired beauty in her twenties living a dual life in two locations. She runs with a bad guy in Boston but falls in love with a college professor in New Hampshire. She had a bad home life as a kid and now is torn between two possible life styles. Her connection to the Boston bad guy results in police attention and that spells trouble for her from the dark side, too.

Secondly, she’s vulnerable, which seems to appeal to male readers who must want to help and protect her. I guess chivalry isn’t dead. But Maria could wind up dead if she makes the wrong move.

Who could play Maria? Years ago, I’d have said Demi Moore, for certain, or Katherine Zeta Jones. Dark hair, great body and sexy style are requirements. So who would you cast as Maria? Leave a comment to let me know.
